Are you looking for simple DIY projects that are both GREEN and effective? Well, you’ve come to the right place! Its 2013 so why not start the year off fresh with a simple DIY project that will improve your health and the environment all at the same time? You probably haven’t cleaned your office since LAST year so that’s a great place to start, not to mention, you might inspire your coworkers to follow in your green footsteps.
More often than not, you can find the ingredients for DIY green cleaning supplies right in the comfort of your own home (or office!) These ingredients are inexpensive and won’t create any toxins that may be harmful or damaging to your health and/or the environment.
Here are some basic ingredients to get you started:
• Baking Soda
• White Vinegar
• Hydrogen peroxide
• Essential oils, like tea tree oil, lavender oil, eucalyptus oil, or lemongrass oil
• Castile soap
• Fresh herbs, citrus, or citrus peels
• Olive or vegetable oil
A great All-Purpose cleaner can be made out of just three of these simple ingredients: water (2 cups), hydrogen peroxide (1 cup) and lemon juice (¼ cup). The key ingredient in this recipe is the hydrogen peroxide. It’s inexpensive, non-toxic and almost completely odorless. It’s most often used to treat wounds and therefore entirely safe to use without any harmful health or environmental effects. The acidic lemon juice helps break down grime and add a fresh citrus scent. By storing this mixture in an old cleaning fluid bottle or similar container, you will have easy access to your very own green cleaning solution!
Check out your pantry at home and see what items you can experiment with to create your own green cleaning supply. You might be surprised at what you come up with!
